CAIR-NJ Seeks Hate Crime Probe Of Graffiti At Muslim Student Group's Office

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J., Feb. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate anti-Muslim graffiti found on a Muslim student group's office door as a hate crime.

CAIR-NJ said someone drew an image of planes hitting the World Trade Center on the door of the Muslim Student Association office in the Montclair State University student center. The university's Bias Response Team is looking into the incident.

"State and federal law enforcement authorities should treat this hate incident with the seriousness it deserves," said CAIR-NJ Chair Nadia Kahf. "No student should have to face this kind of intimidation and intolerance while they are seeking to better themselves and their society through study."

Also today, the Washington Post reported on CAIR's concerns about an upcoming event in Virginia at which the Muslim woman's head scarf, or hijab, will be called a "catalyst" for terrorism.
