OMA Reports A 5.6% Increase In January 2013 Passenger Traffic
MONTERREY, Mexico, Feb. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 5.6% in January 2013, as compared to January 2012. Domestic traffic increased 6.1%, and international traffic decreased 3.4%.
Of total January traffic, 97.3% was commercial aviation and 2.7% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in nine airports in January, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+9.2%), Reynosa (+50.2%), Culiacán (+9.7%), and Chihuahua (+6.8%). In Monterrey and Reynosa, traffic increased principally on the routes to Mexico City. Culiacán traffic increased on the Tijuana route. Chihuahua increased traffic on the Monterrey and Guadalajara routes. The largest traffic reductions were in Zihuatanejo (-17.5%), Ciudad Juárez (-5.1%), and Durango (-9.2%). Zihuatanejo and Ciudad Juárez traffic were affected by reductions in traffic on the Mexico City routes, while Durango had a reduction in general aviation traffic.
International traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+12.1%), with increases on the Dallas and Chicago routes. The largest decreases were at the Zacatecas (-30.2%) and Mazatlán (-6.0%) airports. Zacatecas was affected by reductions on the Chicago and Los Angeles routes. Mazatlán was affected by reduced traffic on the Seattle and Houston routes. The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in January decreased 3.7% as compared to the same month of last year.
