John Martin Named President Of Alcoa Global Primary Products – United States
Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that John Martin, 48, has been named President of Alcoa Global Primary Products – United States (GPP-US). In this role, Mr. Martin oversees Global Primary Products locations in the United States including six operating smelters, an alumina refinery and a spent potlining recycling facility.
Since 2010, Mr. Martin had been Manager of Massena Operations – the longest continually operating aluminum facility in the world, located north of Syracuse in New York State. There, he led significant improvements in production, financial performance, safety and employee engagement, including a safe and successful restart of the Massena East Plant in 2011.
“John has held positions of increasing responsibility in Alcoa’s smelting technical and production areas, most recently as Massena Operations Manager where he oversaw significant operational and financial performance improvements,” said Bob Wilt, Chief Operating Officer of Global Primary Products. “His plant-level experience combined with a demonstrated focus on execution will be key to achieving continued improvements among our US-based Global Primary Products facilities.”
Mr. Martin joined Alcoa in 1986 as a Mechanical Engineer at Warrick Operations, one of the largest aluminum smelting and fabricating facilities in the world, located in Evansville, Indiana. He later became Smelting Technical Manager in 2004. Two years later, he was named Manager of the Warrick Casthouse and became Power Plant Manager in 2008.
Succeeding Mr. Martin on an interim basis are Bob Lenney, who is named Massena East Plant Manager, and Steve Rombough who is named Massena West Plant Manager. Mr. Martin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University and a Master’s Degree in Behavioral Science from Bastyr University.
