ColorTyme, Inc., America’s first franchisor of independently owned-and-operated rent-to-own stores, will be expanding its reach internationally for the first time when it begins the franchising of 18 Rent-A-Centre locations in Canada.
The 18 stores, which will continue to carry the Rent-A-Centre name once franchised, are located in the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario and include 4 locations in the Toronto metropolitan area.
“With ColorTyme’s over 34 years of franchising experience and continued success, the expansion into Canada is a logical and momentous step for the company,” said ColorTyme CEO Cathy Skula. “We feel that we are well-suited to launch this endeavor, and look forward to growing the Rent-A-Centre brand in Canada.”
Rent-A-Centre will be looking for either one or several master franchisees to purchase the existing locations, with plans to develop additional stores throughout the country.
A longtime member of the International Franchise Association, ColorTyme will be in attendance at the Canadian Franchise Association’s Franchise Show on Feb. 23 and 24 in Toronto. Interested investors can learn about franchising with Rent-A-Centre on its website,

“Rent-A-Centre has been a well-known brand in Canada for many years, and this is a prime opportunity for a franchisee to get in on the ground level of this enterprise,” said Landry.
