American Water's Chief Information Officer Named A Premier IT Leader By Computerworld
American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today that vice president and chief information officer Mark S. Smith was selected as one of Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2013. This year's Premier 100 spotlights leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership, innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively managed IT strategies. Smith will be honored along with his fellow IT Leaders at the magazine's conference in Tucson, Ariz., March 3 through 5, 2013.
Smith joined American Water in 2008 and brings nearly 30 years of technology expertise and leadership experience in the development, implementation, and support of IT solutions. Appointed to his current position in September 2012, Smith is responsible for all aspects of information technology service delivery and management including Information Technology Services’ (ITS) support of American Water’s business transformation and SAP migration. His strategic focus for the ITS organization is one based on developing internal business partnerships, establishing a service oriented culture, and optimizing (and making more transparent) IT costs.
Smith is actively involved in community efforts and serves as Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors for Touch New Jersey, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computers and information systems from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and currently resides in Downingtown, Pa.
The Premier 100 IT Leaders was first created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have a positive impact on their organization through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges, and effectively manage and execute IT strategies.
