Baltimore Ravens Win Super Bowl XLVII
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII Sunday 34-31, overpowering the San Francisco 49ers early in the game with strong passing.
Baltimore had a wide lead of 28-6 well into the third quarter, but the 49ers staged a dramatic second-half comeback that gave them 25 more points and nearly the victory.
Among other highlights, the game featured a 108-yard kickoff return, rival head coaches who are brothers and a power outage that shut off lights in the New Orleans Superdome for more than a half hour.
The first touchdown came with about 10 and a half minutes remaining in the first quarter. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco connected with wide receiver Anquan Boldin in the end zone for a touchdown, and the Ravens got the extra point.
The 49ers followed with a push that looked like it would end with a touchdown, but quarterback Colin Kaepernick's pass to Michael Crabtree in the end zone was unsuccessful. Kaepernick was then sacked, and the 49ers ended up sending in David Akers to kicked a 36-yard field goal. About three minutes into the second quarter, a strong drive by San Francisco ended when running back LaMichael James fumbled, giving the ball back to the Baltimore. Baltimore continued its assault as Flacco passed to Dennis Pitta in the end zone to give Baltimore a 14-3 lead. The 49ers quickly lost possession in their next drive as a Kaepernick pass was intercepted, and a scuffle erupted on the field. Toward the end of the second quarter, the Ravens' Jacoby Jones caught a long pass, fell on his back and then got up to evade a 49er and run into the end zone. With the extra point, it gave the Ravens 21 points. San Francisco narrowed the score with a field goal with about 8 minutes left in the second quarter. Beyonce's sizzling halftime performance was upstaged at the beginning of the third quarter when Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones caught the kickoff in the Ravens' end zone and then ran 108 yards for a touchdown.Select the service that is right for you!
