/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following statement is from
Marie Lopez Rogers
, president of the National League of Cities (NLC) and mayor of
in response to today's unemployment report:
"Today's unemployment rate showed modest growth, but NLC remains concerned about the slow pace of recovery. While the nation has postponed the fiscal cliff, it is important that the nation continues to work on preventing the automatic spending cuts from taking effect.
"The cuts are too blunt an instrument that threatens to pull the economy back and at the expense of our cities' families.
must find an approach to fixing our nation's financial picture by ensuring that cities are able to make much needed investments in infrastructure and people. This approach would lay a foundation for future growth while putting people into jobs right now."
The National League of Cities is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
