Manganaro Midatlantic Awarded With Sixteenth Washington Building Congress Craftsmanship Award And Receives First Star Award For Arent Fox's New Offices

WASHINGTON, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Manganaro Midatlantic ( www.manganaro.com/midatlantic), a leading construction subcontractor in the mid-Atlantic region, is being honored with their sixteenth Washington Building Congress (WBC) Craftsmanship Award and their first Star Award, upon completion of interior work on the new offices of Arent Fox in downtown D.C. The WBC works to unite members of the building community within the D.C.-metro area by supporting the development of close relationships through collaboration to advance the construction industry. The Star Award brings project recognition to the next level, by recognizing projects that have been recommended by the WBC evaluation team as demonstrating the highest level of quality, and surpassing the awards criteria. Specializing in drywall, acoustics, and masonry, Manganaro Midatlantic brought their expertise to surmount the challenges present in high-end office building interiors.

The new offices are in a brand new 12 story high-rise building that was designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. Clark Construction Group was responsible for general construction management on the building project and employed Manganaro for interior work. The offices of Arent Fox occupy two-thirds of this environmentally sustainable building, a total of 280,000 square feet. State-of-the-art offices require a highly efficient use of space, which provided Manganaro with some complexities that gave their highly skilled craft workers the opportunity to exhibit excellence. In particular, the framing, hanging, and finishing of the nine case rooms proved to be the most difficult and unique feature of the project. Each of the stand-alone case rooms were built with standard steel stud framing that was laid-out and framed in the field, with a curved and canted shape. It was challenging enough to frame walls such as these in three dimensions, but being able to achieve a superior level 5 finish as well was a great achievement. The curving wall form was repeated elsewhere throughout the space, giving the offices a truly distinctive touch.

Throughout the project, Manganaro Midatlantic exemplified the Washington Building Congress' three areas of excellence; visual, technical, and excellence in the face of adversity.
