US Airways Flight Attendants To Vote On Single Contract

Agreement Would Extend Industry-Leading Job Protections, Increase Pay and Set Stage for New Merger

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) today reached a tentative agreement with US Airways management for a contract covering all US Airways mainline Flight Attendants. The tentative agreement, reached under the supervision of the National Mediation Board (NMB), would allow for immediate economic improvements and provide all US Airways Flight Attendants with the strongest position possible for any discussions related to the next merger. AFA was steadfast that any agreement recognize the contributions of US Airways Flight Attendants and provide the opportunity to work as partners in a potential merger.

"This agreement provides US Airways Flight Attendants with a strong position for our future.  We secured immediate improvements as well as a process for additional gains through discussions related to the pending merger. Doug Parker's plan for a US Airways/American merger provides the best opportunities for US Airways Flight Attendants - and we are now poised to make the most out of those opportunities," said AFA US Airways Presidents Roger Holmin and Deborah Volpe. "We are incredibly grateful for the leadership of the National Mediation Board and especially the skilled oversight of Board Member Puchala and Mediator Mackenzie."

The AFA Joint Negotiating Committee and elected Flight Attendant leaders unanimously endorse ratification of the agreement. A ratification schedule will be set and announced tomorrow.

The Association of Flight Attendants is the world's largest Flight Attendant union. Focused 100 percent on Flight Attendant issues, AFA has been the leader in advancing the Flight Attendant profession for over 67 years. Serving as the voice for Flight Attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill, AFA has transformed the Flight Attendant profession by raising wages, benefits and working conditions. Nearly 60,000 Flight Attendants at 20 airlines, including 6,800 members at US Airways, come together to form AFA, part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO.
