NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN) hit a new 52-week high Thursday as it is currently trading at $49.30, above its previous 52-week high of $49.28 with 88,784 shares traded as of 9:36 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 1.1 million shares over the past 30 days.

AstraZeneca has a market cap of $61.57 billion and is part of the health care sector and drugs industry. Shares are up 3.6% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday.

AstraZeneca PLC engages in the discovery, development, and commercialization of prescription medicines for gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, neuroscience, respiratory and inflammation, oncology, and infectious diseases worldwide. The company has a P/E ratio of 6.7, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
