Chicago Cultural Mile Introduces Board Members John McCarter, Jr. & Frank Novel

CHICAGO, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago Cultural Mile Association announced the reappointment of John W. McCarter, Jr. and the appointment of Frank P. Novel to its Board of Directors.  "The Chicago Cultural Mile is fortunate to have two board members who will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the organization.  Like the association's famous founder, Lawrence M. Pucci, these men have a passion for the area's many offerings," according to J.R. Davis, President of the Chicago Cultural Mile.

John W. McCarter, Jr. is President Emeritus of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago where, until his retirement in 2012, he served as the museum's President and Chief Executive Officer for 16 years.  A native Chicagoan, McCarter previously was Senior Vice President of Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc., where he consulted with several leading companies active in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and nutrition. Earlier, he served as President of DeKalb Corporation and DeKalb-Pfizer Genetics and as Budget Director of the State of Illinois under Governor Richard B. Ogilvie.  McCarter was a White House Fellow during the administration of Lyndon B. Johnson.  He is an Emeritus Trustee of the University of Chicago and a former Trustee of Princeton University as well as an Emeritus Trustee and former Chairman of WTTW, Chicago's public television station.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and currently serves as a Trustee for the National Recreation Foundation, Regent for the Smithsonian Institution, and is on the Board of the Chicago Humanities Festival.

Frank P. Novel is the President, Trust Officer and a Director of the Metropolitan Capital Bank & Trust.  He is also President and Principal of Metropolitan Capital Investment Banc, Inc.  Prior to joining Metropolitan Capital, Novel served as President of three other Chicago area banks, having begun his forty-five year banking career with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.  He is a past director of the Lombard and Naperville Chambers of Commerce as well as a past member of their Rotary Clubs.  Novel recently completed his duties as Treasurer of the Village of Winfield.  He is currently a member of the Union League Club of Chicago, serving on its Membership Committee.

Additionally, the Chicago Cultural Mile recently hired Sharene Shariatzadeh as its new Executive Director.  "Sharene brings an artistic passion and a proven track record in business development to her work at the Chicago Cultural Mile," Davis said.

Prior to serving in her current position, Shariatzadeh served as Director of Business Development for the Chicago News Cooperative, a start-up not-for-profit news agency best known for producing the twice-weekly Chicago Report for The New York Times.  She also served as Director of Business Development & Strategy for Real Green Media where she developed and managed funding partners and executed programs that teach students about the environment.  Shariatzadeh was also President and Director of Business Development for The Chicago Conservation Center and held key positions at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Islaz.com, The Joffrey Ballet, and Leslie Hindman Auctioneers.
