St. Jude Children's Research Hospital On FORTUNE Magazine's "100 Best Companies To Work For" List For Third Year

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has been recognized for the third consecutive year by FORTUNE magazine as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For." Hospital employees consistently rank the strong connection to the St. Jude mission and the pride they have in working for the cause of finding cures and saving children as a top benefit.

"Our 50 years of progress has come from teamwork, and our employees know that regardless of which department they work in, they are valued and they understand their efforts contribute directly to achieving our mission," said Dr. William E. Evans, St. Jude director and CEO. "They come to work each day knowing the institution is committed to making this a place where they can do their best work because our mission is enormously challenging. We're honored to be on the FORTUNE list for a third consecutive year, and this recognition says much about the quality of St. Jude treatment and research and the quality of its employees."

The hospital's culture of compassion, innovation and quality and its strong commitment to teamwork were noted by St. Jude employees on the survey.

"We continually strive to make St. Jude a place where people can enjoy challenging and meaningful work in an environment that values and encourages excellence," said Mary Anna Quinn, senior vice president and chief support operations officer at St. Jude. "We are proud of our employees, and making the list is just one of the ways their work is recognized."

To choose the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute. More than 277,000 employees at 259 firms participated in this year's survey. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts. Any company that has been in operation at least five years and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.

The full list of 100 companies is currently available on FORTUNE's iPad App for free at  http://bit.ly/13nvAsi. The full list will go online at www.Fortune.com/BestCompanies Thursday, January 17, by 8 a.m. EST.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
