Newtown, Conn. Resident Creates Newtown Peace Park Memorial Education Book And Website To Honor Shooting Victims
NEWTOWN, Conn., Jan. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Julie Lyonn Lieberman to create a free digital book and interactive educational website that will teach skills and offer resources to help create a culture of kindness and mutual respect. Readers and visitors can hone their community-building skills and access useful links. Determined to overcome evil with good through education, the digital book and website will memorialize the 20 children and 6 adults senselessly slain on 12/14/12.
After 10 days of tears and disbelief, Lieberman realized that she needed to do something positive after driving past a sign created by a Newtown resident, "There is no foot so tiny that it can't leave an imprint on this world."
Lieberman plans to consult with town spiritual leaders as well as peace-making experts regarding inspirational quotes, essays, and support links provided by the book and site. She has also created a Newtown Peace Park Facebook page for suggestions from the general public. She will solicit quotes, essays, artwork, music and pictures from locals as well as from outside the community. Themes will include topics such as creating a culture of kindness; healing from tragedy; paying it forward; conflict resolution; communication skills; how to build community; anger management; mediation; transcendence, and more.
The website design will assign 26 key locales in Newtown as virtual learning sites. Each location — from the Sandy Hook Elementary School to Edmond Town Hall to Ram's Pasture — will feature an inspirational quote and a topic with links to established resources. After visiting each locale on the website, a luminary will be illuminated on the home page until a total of 26 luminaries are activated … one for each of victims of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.Lieberman plans to publish the digital book and activate the website in time for the one year memorial and to create a Newtown Peace Park anthem that string orchestras can perform to commemorate the anniversary.
