EBay Inc (EBAY): Today's Featured Retail Winner

eBay (EBAY) pushed the Retail industry higher today making it today's featured retail winner. The industry as a whole closed the day down 0.9%. By the end of trading, eBay rose 73 cents (1.4%) to $53.51 on average volume. Throughout the day, 10.1 million shares of eBay exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 10.3 million shares. The stock ranged in a price between $52.06-$53.58 after having opened the day at $52.53 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $52.78. Other companies within the Retail industry that increased today were: ValueVision Media (VVTV), up 9.8%, E-Commerce China Dangdang (DANG), up 6.8%, Acorn International (ATV), up 6.4%, and Tilly's (TLYS), up 5.5%.

eBay Inc. provides online platforms, services, and tools to help individuals and merchants in online and mobile commerce and payments in the United States and internationally. eBay has a market cap of $67.87 billion and is part of the services sector. The company has a P/E ratio of 17.9, above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are up 2.8% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday. Currently there are 18 analysts that rate eBay a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and eight rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates eBay as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its compelling growth in net income, revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, notable return on equity and reasonable valuation levels. Although no company is perfect, currently we do not see any significant weaknesses which are likely to detract from the generally positive outlook.

On the negative front, QKL Stores (QKLS), down 7.4%, Cache (CACH), down 7.3%, Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage (NGVC), down 5.8%, and Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH), down 5.4%, were all laggards within the retail industry with Lowe's Companies (LOW) being today's retail industry laggard.
