Where to Eat in D.C. During the Inaugural

LAS VEGAS (TheStreet) -- This year's inauguration is not only packed full of events (the worship service, the swearing in, the dinner, the ball), but packed with dining opportunities as well. If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, TravelsinTaste found plenty of places to dine in the D.C. area where you can share the president and first lady's foodie sensibilities.

To start, you might want to relive President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama's famous date night in New York, and Birch & Barley executive chef Kyle Bailey is a veteran of the New York culinary institution Blue Hill, the scene of that date. Located in the capital's hip stretch of 14th Street near Logan Circle, Birch & Barley delivers a unique food and beer experience, with a full spectrum of styles, traditions, regions and flavors with 555 artisanal beers curated by beer director Greg Engert and and desserts by pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac. The last inaugural luncheon featured molasses sweet potatoes, but perhaps Bailey's Maple Glazed Brussels Sprouts will prevail this time.

Remember Obama's famous beer summit? You can recreate that in a more grand fashion at Churchkey, located above Birch & Barley and sharing its 555 hand-picked labels. It's an unparalleled combination of small-batch brands with three climate-controlled cellars, a deep selection of traditional glassware and a rare level of knowledge further enhanced by the talent and wit from Bailey's kitchen.

Remember that Krispy Kreme doughnut run during the campaign in Florida? Bailey and MacIsaac -- husband and wife -- are overdue to open a a fried chicken and doughnut concept called GBD (Golden Brown Delicious) in the DuPont Circle section of D.C. The menu includes decadent doughnuts such as the Pretty Cadillac (Grapefruit-Campari Old Fashioned with pink sanding sprinkles) and Coco Loco (Coconut Old Fashioned, pina colada glaze and toasted coconut) that could certainly satisfy any sugar craving.

If it's a good burger you desire, look no farther than Bobby's Burger Palace. You might have seen the video of the president grilling steaks with celebrity chef and Food Network star Bobby Flay during a Father's Day event on the South Lawn in 2009. Flay's Bobby's Burger Palace pays tribute to America's regional flavors and traditions. Guests can get a taste of the Americas with 10 signature burgers, including the Philadelphia Burger with Provolone cheese, griddled onions and hot peppers; the Buffalo Style Burger with red hot sauce, blue cheese dressing and watercress; the Dallas Burger, which is spice-crusted and topped with coleslaw, Monterey Jack, barbecue sauce and pickles; the Santa Fe Burger, with house-made queso sauce, pickled jalapenos and blue corn chips; and the Palace Classic Burger, with American cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion. (All served on a sesame seed bun.)

"At any time of year, my favorite thing to eat is a cheeseburger. With BBP, I was able to celebrate America's variety of flavors and styles on this classic staple, offering a selection of specialty burgers all served at a great price," Flay says. Those looking to eat more healthily can substitute ground turkey or a grilled chicken breast for the beef. You can kick it up a notch and get your burger crunchified, meaning topping any BBP burger with crisp chips at no additional cost.

If it's the first lady's tastebuds you truly want to emulate, head off to Lime Fresh Mexican Grill. After all, she told D.C. schoolchildren in 2009 that Mexican was her favorite cuisine, according to The Washington Post. Here you can savor light Mexican-style cuisine using fresh produce and meats charbroiled on grills while watching the action in the exhibition-style kitchen. There's also a signature salsa bar with house-made selections ranging from mild pico de gallo to spicy habanero, as well as 50 variations of custom hot sauces. There's a similar variety of guacamole flavors served with house-made tortilla chips, including classic guac and the Gringo Guac.
