Alcoa Promotes Monica Orbe To Director, Corporate Affairs
Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that Monica Orbe has been promoted to Director, Corporate Affairs effective January 1, 2013. Orbe is responsible for external communications and media relations; crisis communications; brand, advertising, social and digital media; and communications matters that impact Alcoa's corporate reputation. She succeeds Libby Archell, who is leaving Alcoa to take a position at another company.
Orbe most recently was Director, Communications for Alcoa's Engineered Products and Solutions (EPS) business, which includes the following groups: Alcoa Power and Propulsion, Alcoa Fastening Systems, Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions, Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products, and Building and Construction Systems. The EPS business had 2011 revenues of $5.4 billion and employs approximately 22,000 people in 17 countries.
"Since joining Alcoa last May Monica has demonstrated strategic communications leadership and has rapidly gained deep knowledge of Alcoa’s businesses," said Nick Ashooh, Alcoa Vice President, Corporate Affairs. "In her new role she will be able to make even broader contributions to Alcoa’s success."
Before coming to Alcoa, Orbe was a Vice President, Global Communications at Lazard, a financial advisory and asset management firm. Earlier, she served as a Director of Communications for Bear Stearns in New York. Orbe also has worked at cable network CNBC and CNBC.com, where she co-created and produced "Power Lunch." She started her career with ABC News in New York, following graduation from New York University, where she studied Journalism and Spanish Literature.
