Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ambulatory Services of America, Inc. (ASA) and its subsidiary, Innovative Dialysis Systems, announced today that they have acquired majority interests in six dialysis joint ventures and an acute dialysis program from Kidney Centers, Inc. (KCI) and affiliates of KCI. The six acquired dialysis facilities are located in the San Fernando Valley area of
Los Angeles and provide care to more than 700 patients. The acute dialysis program provides services to eight hospitals. ASA did not disclose the terms of the transaction, which closed on
December 31, 2012.
"Given the strong presence of Innovative Dialysis in the
Los Angeles area, we had long known of KCI, and we appreciated its physician joint venture model, which is much like ours," said
Timothy Martin, the Chief Executive Officer of ASA and Innovative Dialysis. "At Innovative Dialysis we prefer to operate in joint ventures with physicians where our nephrologist-partners can take the lead in providing high-quality care to patients with ESRD, and we can support them by taking care of the business aspects of running dialysis facilities. The six acquired facilities are Kidney Dialysis Center of
Northridge, Kidney Center of
Panorama City, Kidney Center of
Sherman Oaks, Kidney Center of
Van Nuys, Kidney Dialysis Center of Verdugo Hills, and Kidney Dialysis Center of
West Los Angeles.

Ambulatory Services of America, headquartered in
Brentwood, Tennessee, is a health care services company that provides alternative site services in partnership with physicians. After the acquisition of KCI, ASA manages 85 dialysis programs that provide care to approximately 7,000 patients. Innovative Dialysis owns interests in and manages 79 of these dialysis programs, which are located in 13 states and the territory of Guam. Innovative Dialysis also provides management services only to four additional dialysis programs and acute dialysis services to 26 inpatient providers. In addition, ASA, through Radiation Oncology Services of America, owns interests in and manages 17 radiation oncology centers in five states.
