CLEARWATER, Fla., Dec. 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
Tech Data Corporation (Nasdaq:TECD) today announced its donation of more than $448,000 to United Way. Committed to giving back to its local communities, Tech Data's total United Way campaign, including its six logistics centers throughout the United States, raised $448,000 this year. Tech Data donated more than $408,000 of its total campaign to
United Way Suncoast, including $6,040 raised through its participation in the second annual Lincoln Intelligence Project. The funds will be donated to 60 different agencies supported by United Way in the Tampa Bay area.
"We are proud and fortunate to be able to positively impact the communities in which we operate," said Caryl Lucarelli, vice president of Human Resources at Tech Data. "Giving back to the community and making a lasting impact on other people's lives is the most rewarding part of our ongoing support of local charitable organizations throughout the country."
Tech Data has supported United Way campaigns since 1987. Through the commitment and generosity of its supportive employees, Tech Data's campaign raised more than $376,000 for United Way Suncoast last year, part of the company's overall community impact that culminated with winning the United Way Suncoast's Community Champion Award for Tampa Bay in March 2012. Tech Data also received the chapter's Spirit of Tampa Bay award in 2007 and 2010.
"For over 25 years, Tech Data has been a continuous and loyal donor to our communities through United Way," said Diana Baker, president and CEO of United Way Suncoast. "Their generous contributions—by both employees and the company—ensure we can advance programs in education and family financial stability. As well, Tech Data staff and management lend their time and talents as volunteers throughout the year to aid vital nonprofit projects."
In September, Tech Data participated in the
Lincoln Intelligence Project at its Clearwater headquarters. A competition among U.S. companies to determine "America's smartest company," Lincoln donates $40 to each company's selected charity for every one of its employees that complete challenge events and a test-ride. Tech Data selected United Way Suncoast as its designated charity, raising $6,040 at the one-day event.
Beyond monetary contributions, Tech Data and its employees improve the community through United Way by participating in the Day of Caring volunteer project. This year, Tech Data provided 46 employees for a day of work improving the grounds and spending time with service men and women at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
