Family Research Council Experts Available To Discuss SCOTUS Decision On Marriage Cases

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family Research Council (FRC) senior fellows Chris Gacek, J.D., Ph.D., Ken Klukowski, J.D. and Peter Sprigg will be available to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court's decision on whether to take the Proposition 8 case Hollingsworth v. Perry along with several Defense of Marriage Act court challenges when the court makes its announcement.

FRC filed amicus briefs in the Defense of Marriage Act case arising out of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (Gill) and the Proposition 8 case (then called Perry v. Schwarzenegger) in conjunction with the Thomas More Society of Chicago, IL. 

Dr. Chris Gacek, an expert on the federal Defense of Marriage Act, is senior fellow for regulatory affairs at the Family Research Council. He co-authored amicus briefs on behalf of FRC in two federal court cases regarding same-sex marriage. Dr. Gacek received his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He has previously worked for the Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit (as a law clerk), the Federal Communications Commission, and a Senate subcommittee. 

Ken Klukowski, director of the Center for Religious Liberty at FRC, is a national-bestselling author, constitutional lawyer and media contributor. He is on faculty at Liberty University School of Law, and a fellow and senior legal analyst with the American Civil Rights Union. He has also been published by  Politico, the  New York Post, and the  Wall Street Journal, among other outlets. Klukowski has authored briefs on constitutional issues across the country, including the one adopted by the U.S. district court in striking down Obamacare in its entirety. He has authored seven law review articles, and been cited by multiple federal and state courts. A native of Indiana, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame, studied history and political science at Arizona State University, and earned his law degree from George Mason University where he was a journal editor. 

Peter Sprigg is senior fellow for policy studies at FRC. He is the author of the book "Outrage: How Gay Activists and Liberal Judges Are Trashing Democracy to Redefine Marriage" (Regnery, 2004), and co-author of "Getting It Straight: What the Research Shows About Homosexuality" (Family Research Council, 2004). More recently, Mr. Sprigg has authored issue analyses for FRC titled "The Top Ten Harms of Same-Sex 'Marriage'" and "Debating Homosexuality: Understanding Two Views." Mr. Sprigg has been quoted on the issue of marriage by USA Today and the New York Times , and had op-eds in outlets such as U.S. News and World Report, the Baltimore Sun, and the Washington Times . Mr. Sprigg previously served in the ministry, government and non-profit sectors. He received his M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a B.A. from Drew University.
