NSBA Members Vote On Priorities For 113th Congress

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NSBA today unveiled the result of its small-business members' votes on the organization's top 10 priority issues for the 113th Congress. Following last week's Small Business Congress where members heard from myriad policy experts and debated more than 30 different issues facing small business, voting on NSBA's priorities has resulted in an aggressive agenda for NSBA.

"Despite the many challenges facing America's small-business owners—the deficit, economic uncertainty, ever-growing tax and regulatory burdens—we have crafted an aggressive small-business agenda," stated Todd McCracken NSBA president and CEO. "We will be looking for that widespread support of small business that was touted during the elections as we set forth on our agenda."

NSBA's Top 10 Priorities are:

  1. Deficit Reduction through Tax, Spending and Entitlement Reform
  2. Reduce Health Care Costs

  3. PPACA Implementation (need for clear direction)
  4. Small Business Contracting
  5. Fundamental Tax Reform: The Fair Tax

  6. Access to Risk-Based Capital
  7. Regulatory Reform & Paperwork Reduction
  8. Family and Medical Leave Act (opposition to expansion)
  9. National Conference on Small Business
  10. Expand Section 179 Expensing

At the beginning of each new session of Congress, NSBA brings its members together at the Small Business Congress to discuss the issues and craft an agenda for the coming two years. This gives NSBA's members the opportunity to bring new issues to the table as well as further debate and develop previous priorities.

"NSBA is a uniquely member-driven organization, and, through this voting process, our members have crafted a small-business agenda that truly reflects what small business owners need," stated NSBA Chair Chris Holman, CEO of Michigan Business Network.com and President of The Greater Lansing Business Monthly. "Clearly, there is nothing that weighs more heavily on small business than the deficit and tax reform."

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, NSBA is a staunchly nonpartisan organization advocating on behalf of America's entrepreneurs. NSBA's 65,000 members represent every state and every industry in the U.S., and we are proud to be the nation's first small-business advocacy organization. Please visit www.nsba.biz.
