Apple Inc (AAPL): Today's Featured Computer Hardware Laggard

By the end of trading, Apple fell $10.34 (-1.8%) to $575.85 on average volume. Throughout the day, 19.8 million shares of Apple exchanged hands as compared to its average daily volume of 20.1 million shares. The stock ranged in price between $572.13-$581.80 after having opened the day at $581.80 as compared to the previous trading day's close of $586.19. Other companies within the Computer Hardware industry that declined today were: Overland Storage (OVRL), down 8.3%, Dataram Corporation (DRAM), down 6.8%, Mad Catz Interactive (MCZ), down 6.4%, and Echelon Corporation (ELON), down 4.6%.

Apple Inc., together with subsidiaries, designs, manufactures, and markets personal computers, mobile communication devices, and portable digital music and video players, as well as sells various related software, services, peripherals, and networking solutions. Apple has a market cap of $550.57 billion and is part of the technology sector. The company has a P/E ratio of 13.3, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are up 44.7% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are 36 analysts that rate Apple a buy, no analysts rate it a sell, and two rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Apple as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its solid stock price performance, impressive record of earnings per share growth, compelling growth in net income, robust revenue growth and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company shows weak operating cash flow.

On the positive front, OCZ Technology Group (OCZ), up 9.6%, Radisys Corporation (RSYS), up 9.1%, iGo (IGOI), up 6.2%, and Intermec (IN), up 5.7%, were all gainers within the computer hardware industry with Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) being today's featured computer hardware industry leader.
