Small Business Takes Control Of Healthcare

SENECA, S.C., Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The South Carolina Health Cooperative (SCHC), the first licensed Health Cooperative in South Carolina is putting small businesses in charge of their own healthcare.

After more than 3 years of development, hundreds of small businesses across South Carolina are receiving their health insurance through a non-profit company that they own. SCHC is revolutionizing healthcare with a long-term, information driven solution, for all of its small business members.

SCHC members, their employees, and their families are now seeing the results. The initial small business members of the SCHC are saving millions of dollars while providing high quality healthcare for their employees and their families.

Cooper Littlejohn, SCHC's 22 year-old Chief Executive Officer and one of the youngest healthcare executives in the country, said, "The South Carolina Health Cooperative gives small businesses with 2 to 50 employees the opportunity to manage their own health insurance. The member small businesses are determining their benefits. Their actions and choices will ultimately dictate their rates."

"Our greatest assets are our small business members. We are growing quickly because our members are constantly helping us find ways to save money and those same members are our biggest advocates in the community," Littlejohn said. "The Cooperative is solving many of the problems the federal government seeks to fix, with the difference being the Cooperative is fixing the problems right now without spending a dime of taxpayer dollars."

Burrow Hill with Hill Construction, a member of SCHC in Charleston, South Carolina, said, "In 37 years of dealing with health insurers, I have had my share of experiences, both good and bad. The South Carolina Cooperative makes me feel they are treating my issue as if it were their very own."

Robert Berger of Berger Dental Group proclaimed, "The Cooperative is an innovative and visionary approach to solving the healthcare problem that our Country's leaders have been trying to fix for decades. I am proud to be one of the founding members of the South Carolina Health Cooperative."

SCHC is accepting new members for January 1, 2013. The deadline to enroll is December 20, 2012.
