NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Aflac (NYSE:AFL) hit a new 52-week high Thursday as it is currently trading at $52.49, above its previous 52-week high of $52.46 with 517,904 shares traded as of 11:16 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 2.7 million shares over the past 30 days.

Aflac has a market cap of $24.15 billion and is part of the financial sector and insurance industry. Shares are up 20.2% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday.

Aflac Incorporated, through its subsidiary, American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus, provides supplemental health and life insurance. The company has a P/E ratio of 8.5, below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
