Nov. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the holiday shopping season fast approaching, FairWinds Partners, the leading domain name strategy consultancy, has named Target Corporation and Vistaprint as its first-ever Cyber Monday Champions. FairWinds ranked the 50 largest online retailers based on their ability to capitalize on the sharp increase of traffic to their primary domains and to the most common typo variations of their domain names around Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday, the Monday after
Thanksgiving, is traditionally the busiest online shopping day of the year, with many sites featuring deals for holiday shoppers that account for large jumps in site traffic.
"Cyber Monday is a critical day of the year for ecommerce sites, and it's crucial to own typos of your domain name in order to maximize traffic and potential revenue," said
Liz Sweezey, Vice President of Consulting Services at FairWinds. "The brands that rank highly in this study are taking appropriate measures to ensure that they are maximizing their Cyber Monday potential."
FairWinds measured the changes in traffic to
Internet Retailer's top 50 online retailers in the month of
November 2011, as well as changes in traffic to the domain names that incorporate the most common typos of the top 50 retailers' primary domain names. FairWinds ranked the top 50 sites using on a point system based on percentage increases or decreases in traffic, leading to the crowning of the FairWinds Cyber Monday Champion.
This year, Target and Vistaprint shared the title of FairWinds Cyber Monday Champion. Both Target and Vistaprint experienced significant increases in traffic between October and November of 2011, and they also gained points for owning typo domain names that experienced bumps in traffic over the same period. The retailers that scored the lowest of all 50 sites do not own several crucial typo domains that experienced massive boosts in traffic, potentially costing the companies significantly in terms of sales and revenue. Following the release of traffic data for 2012, FairWinds will release an update to the study to reveal the 2012 FairWinds Cyber Monday Champion.
