Of the 73.8 million children in the United States in 2012, approximately 7.1 million (9.7 percent) lived with a grandparent.
The latest Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey was conducted in February, March and April of 2012 for a nationwide sample of about 100,000 addresses. Statistics from surveys are subject to sampling and nonsampling error.
