Lowe’s Iris Smart Kit Named As CES Innovations 2013 Design And Engineering Award Honoree

Lowe’s Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) today announced that it has been named an International CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the Iris Smart Kit. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics products across 29 product categories.

Lowe’s entered the Smart Home market in July with the launch of its new, award- winning Smart Kit. Lowe’s offers three starter kits: Iris Safe & Secure, Iris Comfort & Control and Iris Smart Kit. Iris is available in more than 500 Lowe’s stores nationwide and on Lowes.com/Iris.

“We believe we can make homes safer, more efficient and easier to manage using our new Iris platform,” said Kevin Meagher, Lowe’s vice president of smart home. “Current home monitoring solutions are expensive and inflexible to the extent that 80 percent of homes have no protection. Iris makes home security and management simple and affordable with free, entry-level services, no long-term contracts and a wide variety of products that are easy to install and manage from your smart phone.”

At CES 2013, Lowe’s plans to unveil the next generation of Iris products and services that will allow consumers to do everything from managing home energy consumption to monitoring pet doors to check on the family dog throughout the day. Lowe’s currently offers a variety of connected products that are compatible with Iris from vendor partners Schlage, First Alert, GE Jasco and Radio Thermostat of America.

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ^®, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976.

Lowe’s Iris Smart Kit will be displayed in The Venetian at the 2013 International CES, which runs January 8-11, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 6 in the South Seas Ballroom C at Mandalay Bay.
