Advisory For Thursday, Nov. 1: Third Shipment Of Original Steam Generator To Utah To Begin

Southern California Edison:

WHAT:		Southern California Edison (SCE) will begin shipping the third of four retired steam generator lower assemblies from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station via truck to a disposal site in Clive, Utah. Safety is the No. 1 priority during the transport, which will pass through San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties before entering Nevada and Utah.
		The steam generator is approximately 700,000 pounds and will be transported by a special 400-foot-long vehicle. The steam generator contains extremely low levels of radiation. The exposure that a person could receive standing five-to-ten feet away from the transport for an hour would be equivalent to a dental x-ray. The transport will travel by night in California and take approximately three weeks to arrive in Utah.
