Fisher Nuts Announces Facebook Campaign To Donate 200,000 Meals To Texas Food Bank Network

Fisher® Nuts announced today that it will donate 200,000 meals to the Texas Food Bank Network (TFBN) in honor of its Selma, Texas plant’s 20 ^th anniversary. From November 1 through December 31, 2012, Fisher Nuts will donate 20 meals for every new Fisher Facebook fan.

“We’ve been shelling and packaging our pecans here in Texas for nearly two decades and look forward to continuing that tradition right here in Selma for many years to come,” says John Hutchens, Selma, Texas plant operations manager for John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc., the manufacturer and distributor of Fisher Nuts products. “We hope our Facebook campaign will help raise greater awareness for the Texas Food Bank Network and support our efforts to feed thousands of deserving families throughout the great state of Texas.”

TFBN member food banks distributed nearly 300 million pounds of food in 2011, nourishing over three million Texans through a statewide network of 3,900 soup kitchens, food pantries and local agencies. TFBN also helps food banks build the capacity to end hunger by managing statewide food sourcing and purchasing programs, offering expert technical assistance and training, and spreading food bank innovations and best practices statewide.

“Nearly one in five Texas households experience ‘food insecurity’,” says Celia Cole, Chief Executive Office at TFBN. “We are thrilled to have Fisher’s support and dedication to providing thousands of meals to needy families this holiday season.”

At the end of the Facebook campaign, Fisher Nuts will formally present a check to the TFBN member food pantry in San Antonio, Texas.
