TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions in the rapidly growing consumer electronics and telecommunications markets, today announced that the Company’s HDplay™ TXC-44146 transceiver has been designed into Playvision’s next generation high definition video switch targeted for production launch in December 2012. Playvision designs and manufactures high performance video equipment sold under leading brand names in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. By leveraging HDplay, Playvision is expanding its product offering to add DisplayPort™ support for their multimedia switching products, enabling users to connect next generation devices and quickly select between video sources.
While many video sources and displays rely on HDMI® for video connectivity, DisplayPort is increasingly being featured in new multimedia devices. A recent report by In-Stat projects that annual shipments of DisplayPort enabled devices will reach 1 billion units by 2015. With multiple connectivity standards in the market, video switches provide the critical link between source devices and displays.
“Playvision’s new video switch offers our customers a high performance solution for connecting multiple video devices with different input standards, including HDMI and DisplayPort,” said Zhou Qingquan, president and GM at Playvision. “Through collaboration with TranSwitch, we are bringing to market a robust and more competitive product that features sharp video, ultra-fast input switching, and gives our customers the ability to select inexpensive cables while preserving a high quality user experience. We look forward to continued collaboration with TranSwitch as we continue to expand our high definition video product offering.”
“Playvision has a broad and expanding portfolio of high definition video products and we are proud to add them to our growing HDplay customer base,” said Tim Blanke, vice president of worldwide sales at TranSwitch. “TranSwitch’s highly integrated transceivers reduce space requirements, overall design cost, and time-to-market, while addressing the need for DisplayPort functionality in addition to HDMI support. This level of integration and performance is a strong fit for Playvision’s solutions, enabling them to address new trends in device connectivity.”
