Frontier Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: FTR), the largest provider of communications services focused on rural America, today announced the launch of FTR Energy Services, a cost-effective, clean energy service offering electricity and natural gas. Frontier Communications is among the first companies to leverage the convergence of broadband and energy and has selected Crius Energy, a leading renewable energy provider with retail energy companies in 10 states and the District of Columbia.
“Convergence has been a key driver for the information technology, communications and broadband industries, and the energy sector is a natural addition in that process,” said Ann Burr, president, New Product Trials and Integration, Frontier Communications. “FTR Energy Services builds on our strong relationship with our customers and our commitment to the communities we serve. They trust us to provide additional value, and we take that obligation to heart. As with other partnerships, we have selected industry leader, Crius Energy, to craft an offering that helps customers and enhances our business without additional cost or operational complexity. Customers and shareholders alike will benefit from this new service. It’s a truly positive addition to our robust home and small business offerings.”
FTR Energy Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Crius Energy and will launch in select markets in November 2012. Crius Energy is a pioneer in telecom and energy relationships and was first to recognize the opportunities available between broadband and energy companies.
“Frontier Communications is one of the most innovative broadband companies in the industry, offering customers best-in-class services while investing in the local communities it serves,” said Michael Fallquist, chief executive officer of Crius Energy. “In those markets, customers are the neighbors and friends of Frontier employees. The community relies on these employees for recommendations as to great service and value. We are proud to work with Frontier to offer affordable, clean-burning natural gas and green electricity options to consumers and pleased that these options will be available through a customer’s trusted local energy supplier.”
