Dow component Verizon (VZ - Get Report) posted quarterly profit of $1.59 billion, or 56 cents a share, compared with $1.37 billion, or 49 cents a share a year earlier. Revenue came in at $29 billion, up from $27.91 billion last year. Excluding items, Verizon posted earnings of 64 cents a share. Travelers Cos. (TRV), the insurance and financial services giant, is expected Thursday by analysts to post quarterly profit of $1.61 a share on revenue of $5.79 billion.
Microsoft (MSFT - Get Report) is issuing its quarterly report after the close and analysts are looking for fiscal first-quarter profit of 56 cents a share on revenue of $16.42 billion from the software giant.
Morgan Stanley (MS - Get Report) is expected by analysts Thursday to report third-quarter earnings of 24 cents a share on revenue of $6.36 billion.
The earnings schedule Thursday also includes BB&T (BBT), Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB), Nokia (NOK), Union Pacific (UNP), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Capital One Financial (COF), Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG), E*Trade (ETFC) and Wynn Resorts (WYNN).
