NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- American International Group (NYSE:AIG) hit a new 52-week high Tuesday as it is currently trading at $36.82, above its previous 52-week high of $36.32 with nine million shares traded as of 11:16 a.m. ET. Average volume has been 23.2 million shares over the past 30 days.

American International Group has a market cap of $57.8 billion and is part of the financial sector and insurance industry. Shares are up 56.4% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday.

American International Group, Inc. engages in the provision of insurance products and services for the commercial, institutional, and individual customers in the United States and internationally. The company operates in three segments: Chartis, SunAmerica Financial Group, and Aircraft Leasing. The company has a P/E ratio of three, equal to the average insurance industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7.
