This year, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 60 th year as head of the Commonwealth, but she’s not the only institution celebrating a diamond anniversary. In 1952, Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), one of the world’s largest distributors of electronics components and embedded systems, inked a distribution agreement with ITT Corporation’s (NYSE: ITT) Interconnect Solutions business, which then operated under the name of its flagship Cannon brand.
“For 60 years, Avnet and ITT have leveraged the strength of our partnership to bring our mutual customers highly engineered and highly customized solutions,” said Ed Smith, president, Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. “Throughout the decades, our two companies have seen incredible changes, both in our industry and in the world around us. Technology will continue to evolve at breakneck speeds and we’ll face these exciting challenges together – hopefully for 60 more years.”
The same year Avnet and ITT signed their distribution agreement ITT engineers introduced the world to the D-sub connector, the industry’s first multi-purpose connector. Over the past 60 years this invention has found its way to desktops and laptops throughout the world – a large feat for a relatively small-sized technology. Currently, Avnet sells ITT’s entire line of interconnect solutions: from rack and panel to firewall connectors, D-subminiatures and high-reliability products. The ITT Micro-D Metal (MDM) connectors are an Avnet best-seller and meet increased demand for high performance in a rugged microminiature connector. An excellent example of ITT’s commitment to continual innovation is its electric vehicle connector line, another Avnet best-seller. The EVC-C-15A-300S-20, for example, features the industry’s first level 2 75 amp full charge in less than 4 hours.
