WESTON, Fla., Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Palm Beach and Broward counties recently approved applications to open the state's newest online public charter schools known as Florida Virtual Academies (FLVA). The South Florida Virtual Charter School Board of Trustees, the schools' independent, nonprofit governing board, is working closely with the two school districts to finalize the charter contracts. FLVA at Palm Beach County and FLVA at Broward County are expected to open next year.
FLVA at Palm Beach County will offer grades K-9 in its inaugural year and FLVA at Broward County will offer grades K-8. Each school plans to add additional high school grades in subsequent years. The public charter school applications were approved by the Palm Beach County School Board in August 2012 and the School Board of Broward County in September 2012.
