5 Lines Obama Still Uses From 2008 Campaign
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Since his first presidential debate against Sen. John McCain during the 2008 campaign, there are a few familiar lines Barack Obama has continued to use throughout his term.
There's a good chance voters will hear the president revisit these talking points in Wednesday night's debate against Republican nominee Mitt Romney so keep your ears peeled for our picks.
"We are going through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression."
The president still uses a line that is nearly identical. As he said on the June 2, 2012 weekly address: "Right now this country is still fighting our way back from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression." "Give more and more to the [wealthiest]"/"Trickle down" At a campaign event in Las Vegas, Obama on Sunday delivered this familiar criticism against Republicans: "My opponent is a big believer in top-down economics. He thinks that if we just spend another $5 trillion on tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, if we get rid of regulations on Wall Street, then all our problems will be solved. And jobs and prosperity will trickle down on all of you, and the deficit will disappear, and we'll live happily ever after." "If you make less than $250,000 ... a year then you will not see one dime's worth of tax increased." Obama recently cited his $250,000 slogan at an Urbandale, Iowa campaign event on Sept. 1: "And I'm now running to make sure that taxes aren't raised a dime on your family's first $250,000 of income." "We have freed ourselves from dependence on Middle-Eastern oil by increasing production at home."/"Invest in alternative energy: solar, wind..." Obama's campaign platform has stuck to these refrains when it comes to his energy policies. On domestic oil production: "He is helping expand domestic oil production by offering millions of acres of land for development--including opening up 75% of our oil and gas resources in the Gulf and Arctic--and is improving safety measures to prevent future spills." On alternative energy: "Since President Obama took office, electricity generated from clean energy sources like wind and solar has doubled and his investments in clean energy and energy efficiency have supported nearly a quarter million jobs." "We gotta make sure that our children are keeping pace in math and in science."/"Make sure that college is affordable for every young person in America." Near the top of Obama's education policy, the platform says: "To help students better afford a college education, President Obama ended billions in subsidies wasted on banks and used the savings to double investments in Pell Grants." But the line about making sure our children keep pace in math and science has shifted to recruitment and training of teachers for those subjects: "And he has set a goal to recruit and prepare 100,000 math and science teachers so we can out-compete countries in fields like science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)." -- Written by Joe Deaux in New York. >Contact by Email.
