KGS Announces Collaborative Research Agreement With USF Health Center For Advanced Medical Learning And Simulation

WASHINGTON and TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kforce Government Solutions (KGS), Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kforce Inc. (Nasdaq:KFRC), today announced that the company has entered into a joint research agreement with the University of South Florida (USF) to investigate and innovate new and improved trauma training technologies and methodologies. The collaborative research activities will be conducted primarily at USF Health's state-of-the-art Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) in Tampa, FL.

"KGS's TraumaFX® line of medical training simulators is being very well received, a consequence of close collaboration with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in the development of the Multiple Amputation Trauma Trainer (MATT)®, the first product in the TraumaFX line," explained Graham Palmer, Vice President of TraumaFX Solutions at KGS. "The realism and high degree of haptic response that TraumaFX training simulators create will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of trauma response, ultimately saving more lives. The agreement with USF CAMLS will allow us to work within the world's leading medical training and simulation center where we can apply our successes and expertise to advance trauma simulation and training for civilian, government, and military trauma training."

KGS and USF personnel will lead research projects focused on developing simulation technologies and improving trauma training methods to meet civilian and government healthcare training requirements. KGS has supplied a fully-equipped TraumaFX simulator for use in research, educational training sessions, and demonstrations to distinguished visitors to CAMLS. During the week of August 27 2012, CAMLS provided facilities tours and simulation demonstrations for political and business leaders who were in Tampa for the Republican National Convention; guests included governors, members of Congress, numerous CEOs, and over 150 foreign ambassadors to the United States.

"The mission of USF Health CAMLS is to raise the standard for medical training, and thus quality of care, throughout the entire healthcare community. Advanced simulation technologies allow surgeons, physicians, nurses, emergency responders, and others involved in the entire continuum of care to practice hands-on techniques that, in many cases, previously required treatment of actual patients," said Dr. Luis E. Llerena, MD, FACS, Medical Director and Assistant Professor of Surgery at USF Health CAMLS. "The success of advanced simulation training has created a surge in demand for technologies and methodologies to cover more areas of treatment. The collaborative research agreement with KGS will allow us to partner with an industry innovator to explore new and exciting capabilities in trauma training that may lead to genuine improvements in patient care across the country and around the world."
