Apple Rumor: New Carbon Fiber Product
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Now that the iPhone 5 is old news, everyone wants to know what's next from Apple (AAPL). Whatever it is, it may be made out of carbon fiber.
Japanese blog Macotakara said that Apple has ordered a large number of carbon fiber samples from a Japanese company, citing an anonymous source.
There is little information on the order, except that it's clearly too much to be a sample order. Companies routinely order materials in sample sizes to test out designs before deciding on a final material.
While it's still early to speculate on what the new product will be, it's possible that it could be for new MacBooks, as a patent application titled "Carbon Composite Mold Design" was released earlier this month.
It could also be for the iPad, the oft-rumored Apple television set, or perhaps the next version of the iPhone. Speculation, of course, is half the fun of discussing Apple products. Like most Apple rumors, this may turn out to be nothing, but a large order of carbon fiber usually means something's in the works. We'll just have to wait and see. Interested in more on Apple?
