Magellan Health Services Inc. (NASDAQ: MGLN) has been named a “Top Workplace” in greater Hartford, Conn., and the company’s subsidiary, Magellan Behavioral Health of Iowa, has been named a “Top Workplace” in Des Moines, according to two recent surveys. The designations were determined by employee questionnaires administered by Workplace Dynamics, in conjunction with the Hartford Courant, FOX-CT and Hartford Magazine in Connecticut and the Des Moines Register in Iowa.
“What makes the Top Workplaces recognition so special is that it’s based on feedback directly from our employees,” said René Lerer, M.D., chairman and CEO of Magellan. “Across the nation, our team works extremely hard to foster an engaging, respectful, collaborative culture of health care professionals. We are passionate about what we do for our customers, members and providers, and I’m proud of the commitment our employees make each day to build and nurture a positive work environment.”
This marks the second time in as many years that Magellan’s Avon-based headquarters has been named a top workplace in Hartford, and the first time Magellan’s Iowa Care Management Center has participated in the Des Moines survey.
The company employs nearly 5,000 employees nationwide, providing specialty health care management for health plans, employers and public sector customers in areas such as behavioral health, specialty pharmacy, radiology and Medicaid administration. As part of a vibrant company culture, Magellan’s team members regularly organize workplace events, charity drives and fundraisers to engage employees and support the local community. Magellan’s employees are avid supporters of military, mental health and youth community causes, including Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. As a health care company, Magellan is also dedicated to the wellness of its own employees and provides free biometric screenings, smoking cessation programs, weight management tools and many other services through its employee assistance program.“Magellan continues to attract top talent because our teams and leaders are invested in making a meaningful difference and routinely innovate solutions to some of health care’s biggest challenges,” said Caskie Lewis-Clapper, Magellan’s chief human resources officer. “With such a diverse group of clinicians, IT professionals, project managers, service experts and dedicated people collaborating on each of our solutions, the result is a valuable product for our customers and a rewarding experience for our team.”
