Tyson Foods, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in the production, distribution, and marketing of chicken, beef, pork, prepared foods, and related allied products worldwide. Tyson Foods has a market cap of $4.58 billion and is part of the food & beverage industry. The company has a P/E ratio of 11.8, equal to the average food & beverage industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Shares are down 23.9% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday. Currently there are five analysts that rate Tyson Foods a buy, four analysts rate it a sell, and four rate it a hold.

TheStreet Ratings rates Tyson Foods as a buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, reasonable valuation levels and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had somewhat weak growth in earnings per share.

On the negative front, China Shengda Packaging Group (CPGI), down 12.9%, Central Garden & Pet Company (CENTA), down 11.4%, Central Garden & Pet Company (CENT), down 8.8%, and Elecsys Corporation (ESYS), down 6.7%, were all laggards within the consumer goods sector with Hillshire Brands (HSH) being today's consumer goods sector laggard.
