ORBCOMM Inc. (Nasdaq: ORBC), a global satellite data communications company focused on two-way Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, and
inthinc Technology Solutions Inc. (inthinc), a global provider of
fleet management and
driver safety solutions, today announced an agreement for ORBCOMM to provide wireless data services for inthinc’s breakthrough technology applications in the heavy equipment, oil & gas and commercial fleet industries in the United States.
Through its waySmart
TM and tiwiPro
TM products, inthinc provides a comprehensive driving safety system that changes driver behavior in real time to improve safety and fleet efficiency. inthinc solutions deliver a unique combination of in-
vehicle driver alerts, vehicle location and diagnostics,
distracted driving prevention, and
fleet management features that detail performance and trends for individual drivers or the entire fleet. inthinc’s advanced, patent-pending technology has been proven to dramatically improve driver behavior, reduce crashes, increase fleet productivity, improve fuel mileage, and reduce emissions for its customers.
“ORBCOMM is pleased to expand inthinc’s communications infrastructure by providing greater flexibility, scalability and coverage options for its data communication needs,” said Brian Bell, ORBCOMM’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We are poised for the opportunity to provide both cellular and satellite services for inthinc’s leading global telematics applications as we roll out our next generation constellation.”
“We work with some of the largest commercial fleets in the world, and our customers require a solid and cost-effective communications platform to ensure their drivers and mobile assets are safe and productive,” said Kevin Mitchell, Vice President of Operations at inthinc. “ORBCOMM’s ubiquitous global network enhances the data transmission infrastructure that supports inthinc’s telematics platform for managing fleet activities in real time.”
ORBCOMM’s global data communications service will enable
inthinc to send vehicle and driver performance data wirelessly to the web-based inthinc portal. Through the portal, fleet managers monitor vehicle location, driver trends, driver scoring, hours-of-service (HOS) information, and more from one interface. This visibility allows managers to keep track of fleet operations and identify areas in need of improvement to maximize efficiency.
