3 Things You Should Know About Small Business: August 30

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- What's happening in small business today?

1. Entrepreneurism at the Republican National Convention, literally. One Florida entrepreneur isn't letting his political beliefs get in the way of business, according to the Huffington Post. T-shirt seller John King is selling his customized ware for those on their way to the convention a few blocks away.

The T-shirts have ""Republican National Convention Tampa 2012" written across the top, along with a flag with a teapot underneath and Mitt Romney's portrait plastered on the teapot, according to HuffPo.

The tagline? "Let's Brew It."

Each sale, King says, comes with a little bit of pain. King is a supporter of President Barack Obama. But a sale is a sale, no matter the political beliefs of his customers.

2. Need a marketing app for your gourmet food truck? This app hasn't even launched yet but you might want to sign up for it when it does. Truckily is a "robust location marketing software for food trucks to schedule, live promote and analyze their business," according to the website.

For food truck owners, it sounds promising. Let's see what happens.

3. SEC to meet about small businesses. The Securities and Exchange Commission is holding its next committee meeting on small and emerging companies on September 7 in San Francisco. This is the first time the meeting will be held outside of Washington, D.C. The SEC says it wants to hear "from a different pool of small business representatives and learn more about the issues affecting that region."

The Advisory Committee was formed last year to provide a formal mechanism for the SEC to receive advice and recommendations on privately-held small businesses and publicly-traded companies with a market cap of less than $250 million.

Participants will discuss market structure and disclosure rules among other issues affecting smaller companies. Pre-registration is required by September 5 to attend in person.
