High-brightness light-emitting diodes (HB-LEDs) operate much more efficiently than traditional light bulb products. They use a fraction of the power needed for bulb technology, have much longer operating lifetimes and contain no substances that will harm the environment. Different material structures are used to fabricate these high-brightness devices, and their fabrication methods are unique.

BCC Research last examined this market in January 2010 and considers this an appropriate time to see what progress had been made. The status of LEDs in five major industries is examined and they are compared to traditional bulb products.
