Public Service Without Borders Proves Its Effectiveness Among Global Governments
Cloud-Based Social Platform Helps Boost Communication and Collaboration Among Global Governments
TORONTO, Aug. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - OpenText™ (TSX: OTC), (NASDAQ: OTEX) today announced that governments worldwide are achieving tremendous success through their use of Public Service Without Borders (PSWB), the secure, cloud-enabled collaboration and social media environment it developed with the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC).
Based on OpenText's social software solutions, PSWB helps to securely connect all levels of public service employees to one another in order to network, engage, share ideas, and impart valuable lessons learned in such areas as governance, healthcare, technology and the environment. Whether via desktops or through mobile devices, participants can connect, network, plan and deliver exciting new partnerships and initiatives anytime from anywhere in the world. This online collaboration platform ultimately fosters better, faster and more efficient services to all constituencies.
"E-government is an increasingly core component of any public sector program," said Alex Benay, OpenText's vice president, government relations. "With PSWB, governments on all continents are engaging through social media, e-diplomacy programs, online voting, and other e-government components. We are thrilled by the acceptance and the success this service has yielded to governments so far, and we look forward to a greater number of governments embracing it in the months to come."
Following are examples of how the PSWB platform has been used over the past 12 months, illustrating a continued need for global collaboration in the public sector: Leaders Engaged in New Democracies (LEND) Currently, there is no online platform to facilitate real-time information sharing between leaders who have undergone democratic transitions. By using PSWB, LEND will provide a global forum for exchanging information on democratization from more than twenty countries and support leaders as they work to build strong, accountable institutions and establish the rule of law. The project has received funding from Sweden and the U.S., technology from companies such as OpenText, and backing from many leading civil society organizations. Brazil 3.0 Planning The Government of Brazil is working in collaboration with the Government of Canada and private industry sectors in developing its first ever Brazil 3.0 event, which is planned for December 2012. The two governments are leveraging the powerful capabilities of PSWB to unite multiple parties in collaboration as they deliver new digital media content and capacities throughout the country. By leveraging lessons learned from the Canada 3.0 conference, and by collaborating on the development of Brazil 3.0 in an online forum, both public sector organizations have effectively saved thousands in program and event planning. On December 3 rd, Mark Barrenechea, OpenText CEO, will be delivering the keynote speech at Brazil 3.0 on the topic of "Open Government." "These examples very briefly demonstrate how PSWB is quickly becoming a global game changer, enabling public sector entities around the world to collaborate with one another, and other stakeholders, such as the private sector and academia," said Robert Taylor, IPAC's CEO. "We are pleased to be working on these initiatives with OpenText and are excited to further expand the collaboration between governments and their constituencies through the social and mobile collaborative environments that PSWB provides." OpenText social software was used as the social workplace forum for world leaders, diplomats and policy makers at the G-20 Summits in Seoul, South Korea, and Toronto, Canada. The software helps organizations create a foundation for social collaboration, powering a real-time, community-based network where people can share content and ideas, and work more effectively on various projects.
