Mueller Systems Enables Utilities To Remotely Connect And Disconnect Water Services With Mobile RDM

CLEVELAND, N.C., Aug. 20, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mueller Systems has expanded the capabilities of its fully integrated remote disconnect meter (RDM)—the 420 RDM—with Mobile RDM—a standalone software that enables utility workers to remotely connect and disconnect water services from the safety of their vehicles. Mobile RDM, which uses advanced satellite mapping software to assist meter readers with their routes, can be installed on any laptop with a connection to a maintenance radio or an optional GPS device. While parked within 2000 feet of a service connection that is fitted with a 420 RDM, utility workers can use the maintenance radio or GPS device to send a high frequency radio signal directly to the Mi.Node transceiver, prompting the RDM valve to turn on or shut off service for the account—without requiring advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) or automated meter reading (AMR).

Mobile RDM confirms to the worker that the signal has been sent by the Mi.Node. Once water service has been turned on or shut off by the RDM, the Mi.Node transmitter sends a signal back to the maintenance radio, which then provides confirmation that the process is complete.
