Corporate Leaders And Washington, D.C. Professionals Join Together To Raise Money For Our Nation's Military Heroes And Their Families

Looking to leave a mark beyond the traditional activities that surround a national political convention, a group of corporate leaders and Washington, D.C. professionals have organized a charitable golf tournament and auction to benefit “Birdies for the Brave,” a national military outreach initiative proudly supported by the PGA TOUR. The events will be held at the TPC Tampa Bay on Monday, August 27, 2012 during the Republican National Convention.

The event has committed to raise over $1 million in cash and other resources for our nation's military heroes - including two specially adapted homes that will be awarded to deserving wounded warriors and their families at the event. It is co-hosted by SAP and Intel Corporation, with Honorary Co-Chairmen Speaker John Boehner, Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell, Bill McDermott, Co-CEO of SAP, and Paul Otellini, President and CEO of Intel Corporation.

“This idea started in mid-2011, when a group of us decided that we wanted to step away from the politics of the conventions and leave a mark by giving back to our returning military heroes,” said Ari Storch, Event Founder and Chairman and partner in the Washington, D.C. government affairs firm Artemis Strategies. “In our eyes it was important that we step away from the politics and rhetoric and actually take action to recognize and demonstrate our appreciation for those that fight for our freedom - and, just as important those who stay behind to enable those heroes to do their work.”

Supporters include numerous Members of Congress and Governors, corporate leaders like Bridgestone, Ford Motor Company, the National Association of Homebuilders, Amway, eBay, Yamaha, Verizon, Artemis Strategies and the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.

“Initially, we set out to raise a few hundred thousand dollars, but SAP and Intel almost immediately blew that target away by themselves,” said Storch. “Thanks to the support of both our Host & Honorary Host Committee Members, we are going to far exceed our initial goals by turning this into a pinnacle event in support of our military. From giving away two houses, delivering new transportation to our veterans, to various corporate donations, our communities have stepped up to demonstrate that our commitment is not just in words but in deeds to our returning military heroes and their families, and I hope that this is just the beginning of many more!”
