Wisconsin Shooting Kills at Least Seven

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- A shooting at a Sikh Temple near Milwaukee on Sunday killed at least seven people, including one shooter, according to published media reports.

Citing police, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the shooting took place shortly after 10 a.m. local time in Oak Creek, a town south of Milwaukee.

Four of the dead were inside the temple, while three of the dead, including a shooter, were outside, the newspaper reported.

A police SWAT team was still searching inside the temple at about 1 p.m. local time, and an explosion was heard from the building then, although it wasn't clear what the explosion was, the Journal Sentinel also reported.

Greenfield Police Chief Bradley Wentlandt said the first officer to arrive at the scene exchanged fire with a shooter, who is believed to be dead, the newspaper said.

He added that authorities had no evidence of additional shooters, according to the report.

Although the first officer at the scene was shot multiple times, he is expected to survive, Wentlandt also said, according to the Journal Sentinel.

The shooting comes a little more than two weeks after the Aurora, Colo. movie theater shooting, which left 12 dead and 60 injured.
