New Jersey American Water Completes Repairs On 48-inch Transmission Main In Scotch Plains
New Jersey American Water has repaired the 48-inch water transmission main on Portland Ave. in Scotch Plains, which broke early morning on July 31. The company has lifted outdoor watering restrictions on the 17 municipalities in Somerset and Union Counties that are served by the water main.
“New Jersey American Water thanks our customers in Somerset and Union Counties, particularly those in Scotch Plains and Fanwood, for their patience during the repairs and for limiting water use,” said Stephen P. Schmitt, vice president of operations for New Jersey American Water.

New Jersey American Water replaced 18 feet of the damaged pre-stressed concrete main with a section of pipe made from ductile iron. Now that the water main has been placed back into service, some customers may experience discolored water and should run their water until clear.
