New iPhone Screens to Ship This Month: Hot Trends
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Popular searches on the Internet include the iPhone as more rumors are spread about the newest version of Apple's (AAPL) upcoming smartphone.
Rumors now say that Apple will reveal the next-generation iPhone at a press event on Sept. 12. No invitations have been sent to the press yet to confirm the event; in the past invitations to Apple events are usually sent a week beforehand.
Fueling the rumors is a statement from Sharp President Takashi Okuda, who said recently that shipments of screens for the new iPhone would begin in August. Sharp, along with LG Display Co. and Japan Display, has been one of Apple's suppliers of iPhone screens. The next iPhone's screens are expected to be about 30% larger than those of previous iPhones.
Google (GOOG) Wallet is trending as the payment app has expanded to carry all major credit and debit cards. As part of its new cloud-based version, Google Wallet now allows Visa (V), MasterCard (MA), American Express (AXP) and Discover to be used. Instead of storing the user's card information in his or her phone, cards will be stored on a Google server. Google assures that the server is highly secure and requires a Google Wallet PIN that will protect users from others attempting to use their account. The new Google Wallet app is available now for download on Google Play.
Adidas is another popular search. The athletic apparel-maker reported a boost in second-quarter earnings due in part to the 2012 Olympic Games. Adidas reported net earnings of €165 million euros for the quarter, up from €140 million a year ago; analysts estimated earnings of €156 million. Total revenue increased nearly 15% from a year earlier.
The chatter on Main Street (a.k.a. Google, Yahoo! and other search sites) is always of interest to investors on Wall Street. Thus, each day, TheStreet compiles the stories that are trending on the Web, and highlights the news that could make stocks move. -- Written by Brittany Umar.
