My Black Is Beautiful’s Imagine A Future Initiative Sponsors Second Annual BGR! Queens’ Camp For Leadership And Excellence

My Black is Beautiful’s Imagine a Future initiative continues its mission to impact the lives of one million black girls through the sponsorship of the Black Girls Rock! Queens’ Camp for Leadership and Excellence. Fifty dynamic young women between the ages of 13 through 17 will have the opportunity to participate in a once in a lifetime residential camp experience over two weeks ending on August 4 ^th. Procter & Gamble’s My Black is Beautiful launched the Imagine a Future initiative on July 5 ^th during Essence Music Festival in partnership with Black Girls Rock! (BGR!) and UNCF.

“The Imagine a Future initiative represents one of the most exciting, purpose-inspired undertakings for P&G and My Black is Beautiful,” said Verna Coleman-Hagler, Procter & Gamble, Brand Manager. “We’re thrilled to be the title sponsor of the BGR! Queens Camp for Leadership and Excellence and with our partners BGR! and UNCF, we’ll continue to support and uplift young black girls with opportunities and tools that inspire them to be their best.”

Camp participants are chosen based on a rigorous application process that includes a personal video, personal and academic references and exhibition of strong leadership qualities. Located in idyllic Hudson, New York area, BGR! Camp combines expected summer camp experiences such as swimming and horseback riding with practical and life skills workshops on personal finances, public speaking and college preparation. Through these activities the camp will foster the mission of MBIB and BGR! to promote self-confidence, leadership, sisterhood and community service amongst young African-American girls.
