Strategic Global Income Fund, Inc. – Reports Earnings

Strategic Global Income Fund, Inc. (the “Fund”) (NYSE: SGL), a non-diversified, closed-end management investment company seeking high current income and secondarily, capital appreciation through investments in US and foreign debt securities, today announced its performance for the second quarter and fiscal year-to-date ended May 31, 2012.

For the second quarter ended May 31, 2012, the Fund's earnings from net investment income (excluding short-term capital gains) were $2,193,199, equal to $0.12 per share. During this period, the Fund paid monthly distributions (comprised entirely of short-term capital gains) of $1,117,441, equal to $0.06 per share; as well as distributions (which may be comprised of net investment income, net realized capital gains, and/or return of capital) of $1,977,432, equal to $0.11 per share. Total net realized and unrealized losses from investment activities were $(2,524,813), equal to $(0.14) per share, for the second quarter ended May 31, 2012. This compares to earnings from net investment income (excluding short-term capital gains) of $3,574,955, equal to $0.20 per share; monthly distributions paid (which were comprised of net investment income and/or net realized capital gains) of $3,743,060, equal to $0.20 per share; and total net realized and unrealized gains from investment activities of $3,654,228 equal to $0.20 per share, for the second quarter ended May 31, 2011.

For the six months ended May 31, 2012, the Fund’s earnings from net investment income (excluding short-term capital gains) were $3,444,221, equal to $0.19 per share. During this period, the Fund paid monthly distributions (comprised entirely of short-term capital gains) of $3,167,907, equal to $0.17 per share; as well as distributions (which may be comprised of net investment income, net realized capital gains, and/or return in capital) of $1,977,432, equal to $0.11 per share. Additionally, in December 2011, the Fund paid year-end distributions of net investment income of $186,240, equal to $0.01 per share, short-term capital gains of $343,266, equal to $0.02 per share, and long-term capital gains of $5,758,834, equal to $0.32 per share. Total net realized and unrealized gains from investment activities were $3,883,705, equal to $0.21 per share, for the six months ended May 31, 2012. This compares to earnings from net investment income (excluding short-term capital gains) of $4,616,376, equal to $0.25 per share; distributions paid (which were comprised of net investment income and/or net realized capital gains) of $7,476,990, equal to $0.41 per share; and total net realized and unrealized gains from investment activities of $15,096,557, equal to $0.82 per share for the six months ended May 31, 2011. Additionally, in December 2010, the Fund paid year-end distributions of net investment income of $9,158,628, equal to $0.50 per share, short-term capital gains of $6,231,738, equal to $0.34 per share, and long-term capital gains of $3,155,125, equal to $0.17 per share.
